ABOUT ARTIST:

JANINE MARTENS
Impressionism · Landscapes & Seascapes

Janine Martens is a self-taught impressionist artist inspired by a lifelong love of nature and a belief that it is never too late to pursue one’s passion. Known for her vibrant use of color, Janine’s work is instantly recognizable for its expressive energy, regardless of medium or subject. Color is her signature—used boldly to capture light, movement, and emotion.

Janine began her artistic journey at the age of 50, trading in her tennis racket for a paintbrush and discovering a new creative calling. What started as curiosity quickly became a source of joy, fulfillment, and personal expression. More than 30 years later, painting continues to be her greatest form of joyful entertainment and exploration.

After years of working in watercolor and oils, Janine now favors acrylics for their versatility and immediacy, though she has experience across all painting mediums. Her landscapes and seascapes focus less on strict realism and more on mood and feeling, inviting viewers to connect emotionally with the natural world.

Born and raised in Southern California, Janine draws inspiration from coastal scenery, open skies, and natural light. She currently lives and works in Austin, Texas, where the surrounding environment continues to shape and inspire her work. Through her art and her story, Janine hopes to encourage others to embrace creativity at any stage of life and to never believe it is too late to begin.
