RYAN YIP

Q&A
GN: What are your thoughts on the state of fashion today?
RY: There is a bubble in fashion today, the hype bubble. Most reactions and commentaries are based around how hyped something is and the conversations rarely exist beyond infatuations. Which, of course, is detrimental to designers in the long run as this only incentivizes short-term visions.
GN: Who are some of your favorite designers?
RY: My favorite designers currently: Jordan Arthur Smith, Olympia Schiele from Louther, Steven Passaro, Louise Trotter and Francesco Murano.
GN: What does an average day look like for Ryan?
RY: Typical day for me is being woken up by my cat at around 5am for food, then actually waking up at around 9, make a cup of tea for me and Mia (my girlfriend), then start my magazine editing duties at around 10, then the day is just filled with chaotic and spontaneous agendas that I can never actually keep track of. But the day always ends with watching a show with Mia in bed before we catch some Zs.
GN: What is something different that we wouldn’t know about you outside of your work?
RY: That I am a big whisky lover and I love to cook!
GN: Any advice for young photographers, stylists and designers?
RY: Always do everything with confidence, and the bottomline of success (of any sorts according to you) is always 'do you love doing what you do?'
